The person behind JV Music Tuition is Jacqui Verhaar. Jacqui is a composer and qualified music teacher with a history of music performance in a variety of settings including orchestral percussionist, rock band keyboard player and musician in residence with a puppet theatre.
Jacqui started her music career as percussionist in the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra while studying composition at the Conservatorium of Music in Hobart with renowned composer Don Kay. She worked for Terrapin Puppet Theatre as Musician in Residence, writing and performing music for productions by Jennifer Davidson and Jindra Rosendorf.
Jacqui worked as a high school music teacher in Tasmania for a few years. She also engaged in private music tuition (drums, keyboard, piano) after establishing the North West School of Music in Tasmania.
Composition achievements include performance and recording of ‘Sunrise’, a short symphonic work, by Dutch radio broadcast organisation NCRV, and ‘Theme and variations for 8 instruments’, written for an ‘Emerging Composers Forum’ organised by Douglas Knehans at the Hobart Conservatorium of Music.
After a career change into Social Work (counselling) for a number of years she has returned to teaching music and composing.
Jacqui has just completed a project providing music for a major historical documentary for Dr David Smith.
I use Logic Pro X for composing, it provides an ideal platform for layering music and working intuitively, which I love, as well as providing a wealth of options for writing any music style. Music notation is a breeze with Logic Pro and it comes with a comprehensive library of instruments and sound effects. I tend to gravitate towards Roland for keyboard choices, and am currently using the FA06 for writing and recording into Logic Pro, and an FP10 digital piano.
